South Shore Local Treasures: Part III

In past “local treasures” blog posts we’ve shared information and sung the praises of South Shore cultural activities and events, as well as, nature activities and events on the South Shore.

In Part III of our series, we’re highlighting BOTH cultural and nature activities and events, but ones that are fairly brand new to the South Shore and ones we haven’t highlighted in the past.

Note: This blog post was updated on 7/30/25 to reflect some additional events, i.e., ones not previously listed.

New Family-Friendly Things To Do On the South Shore In Spring and Summer 2025:

Hull, MA: We recently learned about the Endless Summer Waterfront Festival at Nantasket Beach. This free event is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon with family, enjoying live music, local vendors, food trucks, and plenty of activities for kids. It’s a fun, relaxed way to wrap up the summer season. This year’s festival is set for Saturday, September 6th. For more information, visit the Hull Chamber of Commerce website: https://hullchamber.com/endless-summer-2025,

Marshfield, MA: While the Marshfield Fair gets a lot of attention, fewer people know about the Rockin’ at Rexhame Beach concert series. These free summer concerts take place on Sunday evenings at Rexhame Beach. They’re perfect for families who want to enjoy live music outdoors without needing to purchase tickets. You can see the schedule here: https://friendsofmarshfieldanimalshelter.org/events/rockin-at-rexhame-free-concert-99x2g-tnnkm-wl32c-8ydnk-r8pka-s7mck

Pembroke, MA: Pembroke Public Library is running its Summer Reading & Kids Events program again this year, offering free activities like puppet shows, story times, Lego challenges, and crafts. These events are designed to keep kids entertained and engaged throughout the summer. You can check the full schedule on the Pembroke Public Library website: https://www.pembrokepubliclibrary.org/kids–teens.html

Weymouth, MA: For a laid-back way to kick off the weekend, check out Food Truck Fridays at Weymouth Town Hall. Every Friday evening throughout the summer, local food trucks line up with live music artists and a chance to gather with neighbors. It’s free to attend and perfect for families looking to enjoy a fun, relaxing night out. Details are available on the Weymouth town website: https://www.weymouth.ma.us/home/community-events

Duxbury, MA:
The Duxbury Free Library Summer Family Program is in full swing. With free events every week, from Pokémon Club and Lego challenges to drop-in storytimes and arts & crafts. It’s a great way to fill a weekday afternoon without breaking the bank. See what’s on the calendar this week by checking the Duxbury Free Library website: https://seeduxbury.org/full-calendar

Quincy, MA:  the city of Quincy (also known as the city of Presidents) is celebrating its 400th anniversary this year. Throughout the year, there will be a large number of diverse, family-friendly activities, so be sure to check the Quincy 400 website regularly for updates.

Quincy is also home to the Ruth Gordon Amphitheater — an outdoors performance space with a rich history. We’ve attended a few free family-friendly shows in the past, and had so much fun watching great performers al fresco, while enjoying food from the food trucks that are available at the events. Check out this season’s coming line-up!

Scituate, MA : we just checked out two spots in Scituate whose praises we haven’t sung in the place — the first was only recently opened to the public; the second has been open for quite some time. Mordecai Lincoln Property (a beautiful historic estate housed on the Gulph river) and Whitney Spur Rail Trail (1.5 mile flat walking and biking trail which connects to Wampatuck State Park.)

We’ll continue to update this list as we learn of new family-friendly cultural and nature activities and events, so please continue to check back!
